Ed decided to drink a bottle of whisky and half a bottle of wine on the 4 hour journey to kill the time.he couldnt stand up in the morning as he passed out in such an awkward position (or was it because of the probing he recieved from a piece of timber John??). Jamo and his magic tent are struggling. he was the the first one set up but the last to pack away. a smile goes along way he soon discovers from the illustrated instructions.
paid up our £3 PH which the campsite guy looked puzzled to recieve (are all welsh people like this?) and headed for the mountain. We decieded to take the longest and ,supposabley, easiest route to the top. The road leading the foot of the mountain was bad enough. No smoking today! Waited for the badger, who was lagging. He has finished off his wine as his back hurts. Good thinking.
We start the trail and all is well. as we stroll along we soon come to the halfway house. well, this is a doddle. whats all the fuss about? cup of tea and we're off again. things start getting a bit more testing. the incline gets steaper. legs start burning. the badger has had enough and goes back. in fareness to him he has made it halfway with a dodgy back, but im sure the wine didnt help.
my turn to start lagging after rushing off in front and now paying the price. stopping every 5 minutes for a quick drink and breather. summit doesnt seem any closer. want to cry and go home. john strolls along with hands in his pockets as if its a walk in the park. starts to level out and summit in sight. catch up with the pack and alan has picked up an injury 300 metres from the top and cant carry on. feel gutted for him as he was the organiser. rest of us press on and reach the summit. back slapping and shaking of hands. well worth it in the end. it nearly was the end for phil who tried to kick a few seagulls who were after his sandwiches. pretty stupid when you dont have the best balance and your standing on the edge of a cliff. well done to nathan and leigh for driving there and back, especially leaving straight after the descent, but there driving leaves a lot to be desired. looking forward to nevis.
