After years of thinking about it (walked up the Ranger path aged 11 on a school trip),and months of looking forward to it, my friends Darren, Ollie and Petra and I made it to the summit on a cloudy Saturday afternoon- a poor choice of weekend made back in January!
We went up the Watkin Path and, in the poor visibility, lost the path near the top, accidentally taking the scree paths straight to the summit. Terrifying it was too! Despite our inexperience, thanks to a lull in the winds and a huge effort of will and courage, we made it safely (and much relieved yet shaking) to the top. A real achievement to us all for helping and encouraging each other up. Though I doubt these slopes are nearly as steep in good visibilty!!!
A testament to walkers everywhere, the atmosphere was great with all the other people we met on the way up and at the top and along the Llanberris path back down.
To the chaps from the Midlands who missed their exit to the Ranger Path and lost their team, I hope you found everyone without too much trouble. To the absolute nutters heading up Y Lliwedd, fair play!
